Black Santa Claus hired by Mall of America for the first time ever

In a bold, yet surprising move, the Mall of America has hired a black Santa Claus.

Larry Jefferson, a professional Santa Claus was hired by the company during an annual Santa convention.

While speaking to Washington Post, Jefferson said of his appointment, “There need to be more Santas of colour, because this is America, and kids need to see a Santa that looks like them. That helps kids to identify with the love and spirit of the holiday, you know?”

Most people find the situation quite fascinating but Jefferson does not see the big deal. He said being Santa is a calling and that there should not be a lot of fuss about the mall's first Santa of colour.

“It’s hilarious to me, I’m really humbled by it,” he said. “Everyone’s making a big deal about this because I’m a black Santa. But gosh, I’m just Santa!”
